ROCHESTER, NY - The RIT Softball team got back on the winning track on Sunday afternoon, defeating Skidmore College 8-0 and 9-1 at the RIT Field, needing just five innings in each contest.
The Tigers (15-11, 6-0 Empire 8) got off to a fast start in game one, scoring four runs in the first inning, all with two outs to take a commanding lead. Catcher Stephanie Nailos (Pittsfield, MA/Taconic) (Pittsfield, ME/Taconic) hit a three-run double and Rachel Richards (Buffalo, NY/Holy Angels Academy) (Buffalo, NY/Holy Angels Academy) followed with her own double, knocking in Nailos.
RIT followed that up with two more runs in the second inning, as Josa Hanzlik (Fairport, NY/Fairport) (Fairport, NY/Faiport) hit her team-leading 12th double of the year, driving in Caitlin Krumm (Buffalo, NY/Williamsville North) (Buffalo, NY/Williamsville North) and Breana Sniezek (Lewisburg, PA/Lewisburg) (Lewisburg, ME/Lewisburg) to make it 6-0.
All of this offenive support was plenty for Allie Sitton (Baltimore, MD/The Park School) (Baltimore, MD/The Park School) who fanned her 100th batter of the season in the first inning en route to a dominating 12 strikeout performance. She allowed just one hit, a clean single by Sasha Diamond-Lenow with one out in the top of the fourth inning.
Sniezek, Richards and Gretchen Goodhue (Sanford, ME/Sanford) (Sanford, ME/Sanford) recorded two hits apiece in the win.
In game two, Hanzlik contiued her torrid hitting, going 3-for-3 with three runs scored an a RBI. Krumm was 2-for-2 with two runs batted in and two runs scored. First-year catcher Jessica Prudhomme (LaFayette, LA/Acadiana) ripped two doubles and scored a run.
First-year hurler Amanda Morehouse (Penn Yan, NY/Penn Yan Academy) (Penn Yan, NY/Penn Yan Academy) recorded her third win of the season, allowing just two hits and striking out four, over five innings of work.
The Tigers are back in action on Tuesday, as they host Empire 8 rival Ithaca at 3 p.m.
