LEE COUNTY, FL - The RIT Softball team used a two-run third inning and a strong outing from pitcher Mary Keegan (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca West) (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca West) to upend Dubuque College 2-1 in the Tigers season opener on Monday, February 28th.
Josa Hanzlik (Fairport, NY/Fairport) (Fairport, NY/Fairport) and Breana Sniezek (Lewisburg, PA/Lewisburg) (Lewisburg, PA/Lewisburg) each drove in a run during the Tigers two-run rally in the third inning. Megan Varner (Apalachin, NY/Owego Free) (Apalachin, NY/Owego Free Academy) singled to lead off the inning. After a groundout, Caitlin Krumm (Buffalo, NY/Williamsville North) (Buffalo, NY/Williamsville North) singled Varner over the third. Hanzlik then added a single of her own to drive in Varner and make it 1-0. Sniezek drove in Krumm with the Tigers fourth hit of the inning to make it 2-0.
That was all Keegan needed, as the sophopmore was brilliant on the mound, scattering just four hits and striking out seven en route to the complete game win.
