ROCHESTER, NY -- Jason Kenyon's goal at 3:25 of overtime gave #2 Manhattanville College a 2-1 win over RIT on Senior Night at Ritter Arena. The loss drops RIT to 13-9-1 overall and 7-4-1 in the ECAC West, while Manhattanville improves to 18-2-1 overall and 7-2-1 in the ECAC West.
The first period ended scoreless with Manhattanville outshooting RIT 16-6. Midway through the period RIT goalie
George Eliopoulos (Markham, Ont./St. Michaels Buzzers) went down with a leg injury.
David Wrisley (Ithaca, NY/Northwood Prep) (Ithaca, NY) replaced Eliopoulos and made eight saves over the 10 minutes of the period.
Wrisley was outstanding for the Tigers making 42 saves on the evening. None bigger than in the second period. The Valiants broke in 2-on-1 on Wrisley with the puck ending up on Tyler Resch's stick. He had what appeared to be an open net to shoot into but Wrisley came across the goal and made a spectacular sprawling save.
RIT finally broke through at the 6:25 mark of the second period on
Brad Harris (Portage La Prairie, Man./Leamington Flyers)' (Portage La Prairie, Manitoba) eighth goal ofthe year. Harris dug the puck out from behind the net and fired what appeared to be a centering pass that deflected off a Manhattanville defender and squirted past Andrew Gallant for a 1-0 RIT lead.
Tristan Fairbarn (Innisfill, Ont./Newmarket Hurricanes) (Innisfil, Ontario) and
Ricky Walton (Hamilton, Ont./Hamilton Kilty Bees) (Hamilton, Ontario) had the assists on the play.
Wrisley and RIT's defense held off Manhattanville until 14:46 of the third period when Resch struck for his third goal of the season, tying the score at 1-1. Wrisley got a piece of Resch's shot but not enough as it deflected into the net. Zeke Hume was credited with the assist.
In overtime Manhattanville put tremendous pressure on RIT, firing 10 shots.
J.R. Holmes (Toronto, Ont./Soo Thunderbirds) was called for a penalty at 2:52 giving Manhattanvile the power play. On the ensuing man-advantage Jason Kenyon gave the Valiants the win with his eighth goal of the season at 3:25.
RIT was outshot by Manhattanville 52-31. Wrisley made 42 saves and Andrew Gallant made 30 saves for the Valiants.
RIT awaits their opponent in the ECAC West playoffs that will be played on March 4-5.
