ROCHESTER, NY - The RIT (5-10-1) men's hockey team snapped a three-game losing streak with a 6-1 win over Geneseo State (8-3-1) in front of a packed house at Ritter Arena on Friday night. Senior Steve Farrer (Belle River, ON/Chatham Jr. Maroons) paced RIT withtwo goals.

Geneseo's Mitch Stephens got the game's first goal at 12:29 of the first period. Stephens, with Marc Hyman (Thornhill, ON/Thornhill Rattlers) draped all over him, broke in on Jocelyn Guimond (St.-Edouard-de-Lotbiniere, PQ/Williams Lake) short-handed and beat him with a nice move, giving the Knights a 1-0 lead.

RIT tied the score at 1-1 on Steve Farrer (Belle River, ON/Chatham Jr. Maroons)'s (Belle River, ON) second goal of the season. He took a shot that was deflected. The puck came right back to him and he poked it passed Geneseo State goaltender, Derek Jokic. Brennan Sarazin (Nepean, ON/Nepean) (Nepean, ON) and Brad Harris (Winnipeg, MB/Leamington Flyers) (Winnipeg, MB) had the assists on the play.

The Tigers took a 2-1 lead at 17:40 of the first. Tristan Fairbarn (Innisfill, ON/Newmarket Hurricanes) (Innisfill, ON) centered a pass that Darren Doherty (Douro, ON/Cobourg Cougars) (Douro, ON) skated onto and one-timed passed Jokic, making it 2-1 and proving to be the eventual game-winner.

RIT took control in the second period, tallying a pair of goals. The first came at 7:24 of the period from Farrer. Freshman Steve Pinizzotto (Mississauga, ON/Oakville Blades) (Mississauga, ON) dug the puck out from behind the net and swung it around, centering to Farrer who one-timed it passed Jokic, giving RIT a 3-1 lead.

Darrel Draper (Tigard, OR) made it 4-1, just 21 seconds later. Simon Lambert (Ste.-Therese, PQ/Cumberland Grads) (Ste.Therese, PQ) fed Draper who skated into the zone and whizzed a shot that snuck passed Jokic's pad for his sixth goal of the season.

Geneseo out shot RIT, 10-8 in the second period but Jocelyn Guimond (St.-Edouard-de-Lotbiniere, PQ/Williams Lake) (Quebec City, PQ) stopped all 10 shots he faced. The Tigers killed off all four of the Knight's power play chances.

RIT struck twice in the third period, blowing the game wide open. Senior captain Marc Hyman (Thornhill, ON/Thornhill Rattlers) (Thornhill, ON) made it 5-1 just 1:09 into the third. Hyman took a pass from Rob Tarantino (Oakville, ON/Oakville Blades) (Oakville, ON) off a face-off and ripped a slap shot from the point that beat Jokic cleanly for his third goal of the season.

Freshman Steve Pinizzotto (Mississauga, ON/Oakville Blades) made it 6-1 at 15:22 of the third on an assist from Stephen Burns (Newmarket, ON/Newmarket Hurricanes) (Newmarket, ON).
