BROCKPORT, NY— Jill Neidlinger netted a pair of goals to lead the SUNY Brockport women’s soccer team (8-7-2; SUNYAC 4-5-2) past visiting RIT (5-10-2) this afternoon in the NYSWCAA tournament opener this afternoon at A. Huntley Parker Jr. Field. With the win, the Golden Eagles will advance to the tournament finals to face Utica College on Sunday.
The Golden Eagles jumped out to a 1-0 lead when Neidlinger scored on a breakaway after taking a pass from Laura Sawyer :43 into the game.
Melanie Bryant (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) (Lancaster, NY) found the upper right corner of the Brockport goal to tie the game at 1-1, after taking a pass from Gabrielle Peters (Marion, NY/Marion) eight minutes later.
Molly Berkstresser found Neidlinger with a cross-pass 20 yards out for the game-winner, 16:40 into the second half.
The Tigers outshot Brockport 17-9, while each team had four corner kicks.
Liz Durfee made 12 saves for Brockport, notching her eighth win of the season. Ashley Conti (Canfield, OH/Canfield) (Canfield, OH) made six saves for RIT.
The SUNY Brockport women’s soccer team will return to action on Sunday, when they travel to Utica College for the NYSWCAA tournament championship game. The contest will start at 1 p.m.
