ROCHESTER, NY -The RIT men's hockey team fell behind 3-0 to Alabama-Huntsville and could not catch up as the Tigers lost 3-2 on Friday night at Ritter Arena. The loss drops RIT to 3-4-0 on the season, while Alabama-Huntsville improves to 1-2-0.

“I didn't think we came out at our best,” said Head Coach Wayne Wilson. “We weren't very smooth and they eliminated time and space on us.”

The lone goal of the first period came at 6:52 from Alabama-Huntsville. Todd Bentley backhanded a shot from in close that Dominik Rozman tipped through Jocelyn Guimond (St.-Edouard-de-Lotbiniere, PQ/Williams Lake)'s (Quebec City, PQ) legs for a 1-0 lead.

The Chargers made it 2-0 off a RIT turnover in their own zone. Bentley fed an open Rozman who one-timed a shot past Guimond at 3:34 of the second.

The Chargeres took a 3-0 lead at 7:06 of the second on a goal by Todd Bentley. He took a pass from Rozman and put on a burst of speed, skating around his defender and beating Guimond for his second tally of the game.

RIT cut Alabama-Huntsville's lead to 3-1 at 18:20 of the second period. Jocelyn Guimond (St.-Edouard-de-Lotbiniere, PQ/Williams Lake) cleared the puck up to Darrrell Draper (Tigard, OR) who broke in with Simon Lambert (Ste.-Therese, PQ/Cumberland Grads) (Ste.-Therese, PQ). Draper faked the pass to Lambert and wristed a shot past Munroe on the short side for his second goal of the season.

RIT came out playing much better in the third period and that effort paid off midway through the period when the Tigers pulled to within a goal. RIT broke the puck deep out of their zone. Jesse Newman (Westbank, BC/Trail) (Westbank, BC) blasted a shot from the point that was tipped past Munroe by Brent Patry (Ottawa, ON/Cumberland Grads) (Ottawa, ON), making it 3-2.

“I thought we came out and played much better in the third period,” said Wilson. “Our effort was much different in that period and it showed.”

RIT had ample chances to tie the game late in the third period thanks to a five-minute major and a minor penalty that were committed by the Chargers. RIT was able to generate some good scoring chances but Munroe was up to the task, keeping the Tigers at bay.

Jocelyn Guimond (St.-Edouard-de-Lotbiniere, PQ/Williams Lake) made 25 saves in net for the Tigers, taking the loss. Scott Munroe made 28 saves for the Chargeres and won his first game of the season.

These same two teams play on Saturday evening beginning at 7 p.m. in Ritter Arena.
