GENESEO, NY -- The RIT (8-7-4) men's soccer team was defeated by St. John Fisher College (10-8-1), 2-1 in the semifinals of the ECAC Upstate Men's Soccer Championship. Adam Blanchard scored the game-winning goal in the 99th minute off a corner kick to vault the Cardinals into the championship game.
RIT took a 1-0 lead in the 17th minute on a sweet goal from Jorge Ciurlizza (McLean, VA/Gonzaga) (McLean, VA/Gonzaga). Mark Frisicano (Rochester, NY/Greece Olympia) (Rochester, NY/Greece Olympia) drove the ball down towards the end-line and sent a cross into Ciurlizza from 12 yards out. Ciurlizza sent a left-footed shot into the top right corner for his fourth goal of the season.
That would be the only scoring of the first half. St. John Fisher out shot the Tigers 6-2 in the opening half.
St. John Fisher tied the game at 1-1 in the 53rd minute on a goal from Anthony D'Angelo. He took a pass from Adam Blanchard and beat Dan Slocum (Irondequoit, NY/Bishop Kearney) (Irondequoit, NY/Bishop Kearney), who replaced Chris Rouland (Center Valley, PA/Southern Lehigh) in the first half.
The Cardinals got the game-winner off a corner kick. Chriss Rossi sent a curling ball into RIT's penalty area. Blanchard was able to get a head on the ball and redirect it into the net, giving the Cardinals the 2-1 victory.
RIT was out shot 21-11 for the game as Dan Slocum (Irondequoit, NY/Bishop Kearney) made six save in net for RIT. Paul Ilukor made six saves for the Cardinals.
