ROCHESTER,

RIT’s Alaina Chorney (Manalapan, NJ/Manalapan) tallied a goal in the 61st minute and RIT’s defense held up, defeating Utica College, 1-0 on cold and rainy afternoon at RIT Field. The win improves RIT to 5-9-1 overall and 3-3-1 in the Empire 8, while Utica drops to 10-4-0 overall and 3-3-0
in the Empire 8.

The first half finished in a 0-0 tie. Both teams had decent chances but the weather and the defense kept both teams off the scoreboard.

RIT was out shot by
Utica, 3-0. Tigers’ goalie Ashley Conti (Canfield, OH/Canfield) (Canfield, OH) had to make just one save in the first half. Ashley Kaufman (Enfield, CT) did not have to make a save for Utica in the first half.

RIT broke the scoreless tie at the 28:35 mark of the second half off of a set piece. Jenny Buckley (Macedon, NY) served a ball into
Utica’s penalty area from just over midfield. Alaina Chorney (Manalapan, NJ/Manalapan) (Manalapan, NJ) ran onto the service and headed it past Utica keeper, Ashley Kaufman, for a 1-0 RIT lead.

RIT’s defense turned in a stellar performance in the second half, allowing nary a shot to get through on goal. Ashley Conti (Canfield, OH/Canfield) did not have to make a save as the play of Jen Rynda (Medford, NJ/Shawnee) (Medford, NJ), Emily Stecher (New Cannan, CT/New Cannan) (New Canaan, CT), Daniell LaFrance (Syracuse, NY) and Jenny Buckley (Macedon, NY) played outstanding matches.

RIT will play at Fredonia on October 29 to wrap up the regular season.
