ELMIRA, NY -- The RIT Women's Tennis team played host Elmira College on Sunday afternoon. The Tigers defeated the Soaring Eagles 9-0 and improved their record to 6-4 and 3-1 in the conference. Elmira College's record is now 6-2.
In doubles, Brianne Francisco (Amsterdam, NY/Amsterdam) (Amsterdam, NY/Amsterdam) and Lindsey Brady (Emmaus, PA/Emmaus) (Emmaus, PA/Emmaus) won at first doubles and Leigh Bryson (Wallingford, CT/Mark T. Sheehan) (Wallingford, CT/Mark T. Sheehan) and Melanie Blass (Bridgeport, NY/Chittenango) (Bridgeport, NY/Chittenango) won at second doubles. Third doubles team of Aimee Holmberg (Wilbraham, MA/Minnechaug) (Wilbraham, MA/Minnechaug) and Michelle Nicholson (Grove City, PA/Grove City) (Grove City, Pa/Grove City) won their ninth straight match at third doubles.
Francisco, Brady, Bryson, Holmberg, and Nicholson each won their single matches. Also, Rachel Pikus (Buffalo, NY/Buffalo Seminary) (Buffalo, NY/Buffalo Seminary) won her match at fifth singles.
The Tigers play in the Empire 8 Tournament this weekend. The tournament will be held at RIT, Nazareth, and Saint John Fisher.
