ROCHESTER, NY -
Alyssa Bennett (Rochester, NY/Irondequoit) (Rochester, NY/Irondequoit) scored with 14:43 left in regulation play, giving RIT (4-9-1, 2-3-1 Empire 8) a hard-fought 1-0 win over Empire 8 rival Alfred University on Tuesday afternoon at RIT Field.

Alaina Chorney (Manalapan, NJ/Manalapan) (Manalapan, NJ/Manalapan) took control of  a loose ball just inside midfield and fired a pass into the Alfred corner which was corralled by Emily Traversi (Acton, MA/Acton-Boxborough) (Acton, MA/Acton-Boxborough).  Traversi found Bennett, who was streaking into the penalty area. Bennett received the pass from about 12 yards out, wheeled and fired a bending shot just inside the right goal post for her second goal of the year.

RIT dominated a scoreless first half, out-shooting the Saxons 12-0, with several opportunities shot just wide.

Alfred had its best chance with about 20 minutes remaining, when Kathryn Northrup found herself on a partial breakaway, but had her shot blocked by Tiger defender Danielle LaFrance (Syracuse, NY/Cicero-N. Syracuse) (Syracuse, NY/Cicero-N. Syracuse).

RIT out-shot Alfred 25-4.  Rebbeca Pociask made eight saves in the loss for the Saxons, who fall to 0-6 in Empire 8 action and 2-11 overall.
