Volleyball Defeats Geneseo State On Senior Night For Eighth Straight Win

Christina Anabel recorded 11 kills and eight digs on senior night in RIT's win over Geneseo State

ROCHESTER, NY -
The RIT Women's Volleybball team celebrated senior night in grand style on Tuesday evening, running its winning streak to eight straight matches, defeating Geneseo State in three games.

Before the game RIT honored its five seniors Katie Werner (Trumbull, CT/Trumbull) (Trumbull, CT/Trumbull), Bonnie Harriman (Danbury, CT/Danbury) (Danbury, CT/Danbury), Laurie Underhill (East Aurora, NY/Mt. Mercy) (East Aurora, NY/Mt. Mercy), and co-captains Laura Grell (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) and Christina Anabel (Apalachin, NY/Vestal) (Apalachin, NY/Vestal).

The Tigers won the first game 30-17 and then won the final two games in exciting fashion, both by scores of 31-29.  In the third and final game, the Tigers found themselves down 21-13, before mounting a furious rush, coming back to take a 24-23 lead.  RIT found themselves back down 29-28 before scoring the final three points of the game to win the match.

All five seniors contributed in the win.  Anabel led RIT with 11 kills, while chipping in with eight digs.  Werner dished out 27 assists and added nine digs.  Underhill hit .462 with eight kills.  Harriman smacked seven kills, while Grell recorded nine digs. 

First-year outside hitter Jessica Schaffer (Wellington, OH/Keystone) (Wellington, OH/Keystone) led the squad with 11 digs.  Sophomore Shea Haney (Newark, DE/St. Elizabeth) (Newark, DE/St. Elizabeth)  led the Tigers with six blocks.

RIT is back in action this weekend as they host the Empire 8 Crossover matches at the Clark Gym.  On Saturday, RIT hosts Utica at 2:15 p.m. and Elmira at 6:45 p.m..  On Sunday, the Tigers host Hartwick at 12:15 p.m. and Ithaca at 4:45 p.m.
