, NY The RIT Men’s Soccer team (6-5-2, 3-1-0 Empire 8) stayed in the race for the Empire 8 regular season title after defeating conference rival Elmira College by a score of 2-0 in Elmira on Saturday afternoon.
 
RIT took a 1-0 lead in the 34th minute.  Senior captain Mike Lawson (Wall, NJ/Wall) (Wall, NJ/Wall) took a pass from classmate Jorge Ciurlizza (McLean, VA/Gonzaga) down the center of the field and slipped a shot into the back of the net for his second goal of the season.
 
The goal for Lawson was his sixth goal in the last two seasons.  All six have been game- winning tallies.
 
Tiger sophomore Chuck Marion (Syracuse, NY/Westhill) (Syracuse, NY/Westhill) extended the lead to 2-0 in the 53rd minute, converting on a feed from Casey Rathbone (Austin, TX/Round Rock) (Austin, TX/Round Rock).  The goal was Marion’s second of the season.  Rathbone recorded his first collegiate point on the tally.
 
Jimmy Hennessy (Carteret, NJ/St. Jospeh's Metuchen) (Carteret, NJ/St. Joseph’s Metuchen) kept the score 2-0 RIT midway through the second half, kicking a ball of the goal line shot by Elmira’s Marcel Arsenault.
 
RIT out-shot Elmira 21-7.  Tiger goalkeeper Chris Rouland (Center Valley, PA/Southern Lehigh) (Center Valley, PA/Southern Lehigh) made four saves for his first collegiate shutout.  Jon DePrimo made five saves for the Soaring Eagles.
 
RIT is back in action on Wednesday, as they host St. John Fisher at 4 p.m.  This game will be a rematch of the 2004 Empire 8 Championship, won by RIT.
