Volleyball Improves to 3-0 in Empire 8 With Win Over Nazareth; Worsley Moves into Third Place in Wins at RIT

The RIT Women's Volleyball team (21-5, 3-0 Empire 8) won its third straight contest and stayed in a tie for first place in the Empire 8 after defeating conference rival Nazareth 30-23, 30-25, 30-21 on Wednesday evening at the Kidera Gymnasium.

The win gives RIT Head Coach Roger Worsley 126 wins in five seasons, moving him into sole possession of third place in all-time coaching wins at RIT.

RIT won the first two games by jumping out to big leads early on and holding off the Golden Flyers. In game three, RIT found themselves down 7-3 early before scoring 13 of the next 16 points to go up 16-10 and cruise to the win.

Bonnie Harriman (Danbury, CT/Danbury) (Danbury, CT/Danbury) slammed 11 kills and hit .an austounding .692 on the evening. Christina Anabel (Apalachin, NY/Vestal) (Apalachin, NY/Vestal)chipped in with nine digs and nine kills.

Senior setter Katie Werner (Trumbull, CT/Trumbull) (Trumbull, CT/Trumbull) led RIT with 30 assists and added eight digs, while recording three blocks. Fellow senior Laurie Underhill (East Aurora, NY/Mt. Mercy) (East Aurora, NY/Our Lady of Mercy)had eight kills and a block. Shea Haney (Newark, DE/St. Elizabeth) (Newark, DE/St. Elizabeth) had six kills and a team-best four blocks.

Elizabeth Tregan led Nazareth with 11 kills. Elyse Monje dished out 30 assists for the Golden Flyers, who drop to 9-13 overall and 1-1 in the Empire 8.

RIT is back in action this weekend, when they travel to play in the Oswego Tournament.
