PITTSFORD, NY - The RIT Men's Basketball team jumped out to a 30-8 first half lead and never looked back, defeating the Nazareth College Golden Flyers 74-60 on Tuesday night for their third consecutive conference victory.
Senior Sean Murphy (Buffalo, NY/Williamsville North) (Buffalo, NY/Williamsville North) led the Tigers with 22 points and also grabbed seven rebounds. Murphy has now scored in double figures in 15 of RIT's 16 games this season.
Fellow seniors Kyle Goff (Manassas, VA/Stonewall Jackson) (Manassas, VA/Stonewall Jackson) and Reggie Shore (Amityville, NY/Amityville) (Amityville, NY/Amityville) also scored in double figures. Goff tallied a double-double, scoring 13 points and pulling down 10 rebounds. Shore scored 10 points and dished out a team-high four assists.
Junior guards Fran Snyder (Buffalo, NY/Bishop Timon St. Jude) (Buffalo, NY/Bishop Timon-St. Jude) and Tyler Springer (Endwell, NY/Maine-Endwell) (Endwell, NY/Maine-Endwell) both tallied nine points apiece. Snyder also dished out four assists.
Third-year center Tim Bacon (Massena, NY/Massena) (Massena, NY/Massena) chipped in with six points and four boards. Drew Martin (Oneonta, NY/Oneonta) (Oneonta, NY/Oneonta) grabbed a season-high seven rebounds.
RIT made 10 3-pointers on the evening, and held Nazareth to just 33.8 percent shooting in the game. The Tigers out-rebounded Nazareth 45-39.
Freshmen Joe Canori and Ryan McAdam led the way offensively for the Golden Flyers (6-10, 1-4 Empire 8), scoring 17 and 16 points respectively.
Nazareth cut the Tiger lead to eight points on a handful of occasions early in the second half, but RIT responded, going on a 14-3 run over a 3:14 span to give the Tigers a 53-34 lead wth just over 14 minutes left.
RIT (10-6, 4-1 Empire 8) is back in action on Friday night, as they travel to Hartwick College to play the Hawks in an Empire 8 showdown. Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m.
