ROCHESTER, NY -- The RIT (1-0-0) women's soccer team tallied two second-half goals, giving them a 2-1 win over Ramapo College (0-1-0) in the opening round of the 2004 Rachel Miller Memorial Tournament. RIT will face the winner of the Wisconsin-Stevens Point versus Alma College in the championship game on Sunday at 1:30 p.m.
RIT came out flat in the first half. Ramapo outshot the Tigers 10-6 in the first half as RIT goalkeeper Carrie Yehle (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) (Clifton Park, NY) made four saves in the first half. With just 30 seconds to play in the first half Ramapo got on the scoreboard when Noelia Romero took a pass from Brianna McCully and beat Yehle for a 1-0 lead.
RIT picked up the pace in the second half, generating several quality scoring chances. RIT finally broke through in the 57th minute when Kate Cassim (Waterloo, NY/Waterloo) (Waterloo, NY) redirected a pass from Gabrielle Peters (Marion, NY/Marion) (Marion, NY) past Ramapo goalie Christy Turner, tying the score at 1-1. A little over 10 minutes later Alaina Chorney (Manalapan, NJ/Manalapan) broke in alone and gave the Tigers a 2-1 lead with her firs goal of the season.
Yehle finished the game with eight saves for RIT as the Tigers outshot Ramapo 19-18.
