UTICA, NY - The RIT Women's Soccer team earned a hard-fought 1-1 tie versus Empire 8 rival Utica College on Saturday at Utica.
The Tigers opened the scoring midway through the first half, as Anna Kolnik (Sharon, WI/Big Foot) (Sharon, WI/Big Foot ) received a pass from Brittany Peters (Marion, NY/Marion) (Marion, NY/Marion) and launched a shot into the net to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead.
Utica tied the game early in the second half, but RIT continued to hold the advantage in play. RIT's best scoring chance to win the game came with under 30 seconds to play in the second overtime. Kolnik came in on a partial breakaway, but was denied by the Utica goalkeeper. The rebound bounced to Kate Cassim (Waterloo, NY/Waterloo) (Waterloo, NY/Waterloo) whose shot grazed the crossbar.
Senior goalkeeper Carrie Yehle (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) (Clifton Park, NY/Shenadahowa) was excellent in net, finishing with 13 saves.
RIT (2-5-1, 0-1-1 Empire 8) returns to action on Thursday, as they host crosstown rival St. John Fisher at 4 p.m.
