Women's Volleyball Pulls Out Dramatic Victory Over Rochester

ROCHESTER, NY -
The RIT Women's Volleyball team pulled out a dramatic, five-set victory over the University of Rochester at the Palestra on Tuesday night by a score of 27-30, 31-29, 30-27, 19-30, 16-14.

The Tigers were pushed to the brink of defeat, down 9-4, and then 14-11 in the fifth set when the women went on a 5-0 run to end the match, the final point coming on a service ace by junior Bonnie Harriman (Danbury, CT/Danbury).  That was not the first big comeback of the match for the Tigers.  In game three, the Yellowjackets held a 24-21 lead before RIT came roaring back, recording the next six points en route to a 31-29 win.

Chris Anabel (Apalachin, NY/Vestal) continued her tremendous play, both offensively and defensively, finishing with 20 digs and a team-leading 19 kills.  Sophomore Michelle Skowzgird (Grayslake, IL/John Hersey) (Grayslake, IL/John Hersey) compiled a career-high 18 kills to go along with five blocks, while hitting .289 on the evening. 

Laura Grell (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) recorded 27 digs, while sophomore Dani Fisher (Pittsburgh, PA/Plum) (Pittsburgh, PA/Plum) had 11 kills.  Harriman chipped in with nine kills.  Senior Sarah Ballard (Lake View, NY/Frontier) (Lake View, NY/Frontier) finished with a season-high 56 assists in the win. 

For the Yellowjackets (10-3), sophomore Susan Johnson recorded 22 kills and 20 digs.  Kristin Vogt chipped in with 14 kills and six blocks.  Setter Liz Loveless finished the evening with 46 assists and 22 digs.

RIT (6-4) has now won four out of its last five matches. 

The Tigers travel to Pittsburgh, PA this weekend to play in the Carnegie Mellon Tournament.  The tournament will be held on Friday and Saturday.
