Men's Soccer Loses Close Game at Clarkson

POTSDAM, NY - The RIT men's soccer team was defeated by Clarkson University, 3-2 on Saturday afternoon at Clarkson Field. The loss drops RIT's record to 4-2-0 on the season, while the Golden Knights improve to 2-5-0.

Senior Dan Fellegara started the scoring when he dribbled past the Tigers defense and chipped a shot off the left post to end Clarkson's scoring drought at 464:07, spanning five full games. The Golden Knights came through again 16 minutes later when Mark Stowe scored on a similar play, with assists coming from Ismael Mohammad and Michael D'Amico. RIT out shot Clarkson 5-2 in the first half, but were held scoreless in the first half.

In the second half, Steve Battisti made the score 3-0 at the 48:31 mark with a hard shot from 12 yards out.

The Tigers came back with two goals in a five minute span with Jorge Ciurlizza (McLean, VA/Gonzaga) (McLean, VA/ Gonzaga) drilling home a shot from 30 yards out. Ciurlizza set up the Tigers' second goal when he served a corner kick into the box which George Chavez (Endicott, NY/Union Endicott) (Endicott, NY/Union Endicott) headed in to cut the lead one goal at 3-2.

RIT was unable to get the equalizer as time ran out for the Tigers.

RIT out shot the Golden Knights 11-5 and held a 5-3 advantage in corner kicks. Nate Andrews (Rochester, NY/Greece Arcadia) (Rochester, NY/Greece Arcadia) made two saves for the Tigers, while sophomore David Hennessey recorded his second win of the season with seven saves.

RIT is off until Saturday, September 25 when they host Empire 8 foe Utica College at noon.
