ROCHESTER, NY - The Women's Volleyball team finished 1-1 at the Ithaca Tournament on Friday night in Ithaca, NY. In game one, the Tigers won their second game in as many tries , upendening Widener University by a score of 30-25, 30-32, 30-20, 30-23. In the second game, the Tigers were defeated by Williams College, a top-20 team in 2003, 19-30, 26-30, 30-32.
Junior Laurie Underhill (East Aurora, NY/Mt. Mercy Academy) (East Aurora, NY/Mt. Mercy Academy) led the way for the Tigers in game one, recording 23 kills. Junior Christina Anabel (Apalachin, NY/Vestal) (Vestal, NY/Vestal) blasted 19 kills. Senior Sarah Ballard (Lake View, NY/Frontier) (Lake View, NY/Frontier) led the squad with 57 assists, while Laura Grell (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) compiled 29 digs. In addition, Michelle Skowzgird (Grayslake, IL/John Hersey) (Grayslake, IL/John Hersey) tallied three blocks in the victory.
Versus Williams, Ballard recorded 36 assists, while Anabel notched 17 kills. Underhill had a solid all-around match, compiling 22 digs and 10 kills.
The Tigers (2-1) return to action once again tomorrow, as they battle Ithaca at 11 a.m. and St. John Fisher at 1:15 p.m in the final day of the tournament.
