Click For Boxscore (Game #1)Click For Boxscore (Game #2)ROCHESTER, NY -- On a cold, rainy afternoon on RIT Field, the baseball squad was swept by the Golden Eagles of Brockport. In game one, RIT fell 3-1, then in game two the Tigers were defeated 15-8.
In game one, Brockport took the early lead, going up 2-0 after two innings. RIT was unable to answer until the bottom of the sixth, when John Byrne (East Amherst, NY/Williamsville East) (East Amherst, NY) drove in the Tigers' lone run. The Golden Eagles scored again in the top of the seventh to secure the 3-1 win. Dan Weglinski (Hyde Park, NY/F D Roosevelt) (Hyde Park, NY) took the loss in his final appearance as a Tiger, allowing three runs over nine hits, striking out five and walking none in seven innings of work. Byrne went 1-for-3 with an RBI to lead the Tigers.
In game two, the Eagles jumped out to an early 2-0 lead before RIT answered with four runs in the bottom of the second. Brockport scored another run in the top pf the third to cut the Tigers' lead to one, before exploding on a ten-run fifth inning that proved to be the difference in the game. RIT scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth, and Jeff Ware (Orchard Park, NY/St. Francis) (Orchard Park, NY) hit a solo shot over the centerfield fence in his last at bat as a Tiger. But it was not enough as the Eagles added two more runs in the inning to secure the 15-8 win. Chris Haigney (Syracuse, NY/Westhill) (Syracuse, NY) took the loss, going four and one-third innings. Bo Mahaney (Burdett, NY/Watkins Glen) (Burdett, NY) and Geoff Cusano (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) (Clifton Park, NY) also saw action in the game, sharing two and two-thirds innings. Jamie Schild (Fairport, NY/Fairport) (Fairport, NY) led RIT, going 2-for-3 with one run, two RBI and a triple.
RIT finishes the 2004 season with a record of 14-19 overall and 5-3 in the Empire 8.
