ROCHESTER, NY- The RIT baseball squad took on Clarkson University this afternoon, and were defeated 6-4 in five innings, as the game was called due to rain.
Jeff Ware (Orchard Park, NY/St. Francis) (Orchard Park, NY) led the Tigers, going 2-for-2 with two RBI and a home run.
The game was scoreless through the first, as Bo Mahaney (Burdett, NY/Watkins Glen) (Burdett, NY) got the start on the mound for RIT. Clarkson got on the board first in the top of the second, but the Tigers answered back as Rob Ogborne (Penfield, NY/Penfield) (Penfield, NY) scored on a fielder's choice to even the game at one. The Golden Knights tallied four more runs over the next two innings before the Tigers' bats awoke in the bottom of the fourth. A three-run inning helped RIT pull to within one as Colin Bradley (Barre, VT/Spaulding High School) (Barre, VT) scored on a John Byrne (East Amherst, NY/Williamsville East) (East Amherst, NY) RBI double, andJeff Ware (Orchard Park, NY/St. Francis) (Orchard Park, NY) hit a two-run shot to cut Clarkson's lead to 5-4. Clarkson added another run in the top of the fifth before the dark skies opened up and washed out the remainder of game one and all of the scheduled second game.
RIT falls to 13-17 on the season and will face Keuka in a doubleheader in Keuka Park, NY on Tuesday at 2 p.m.
