Click For Boxscore (Game #1)Click For Boxscore (Game #2)ROCHESTER, NY -- On a cold day at RIT the softball team split a pair of games against Buffalo State. In game #1 Buffalo State defeated the Tigers 6-2. RIT rebounded in game #2 with a 9-2 victory.
In game #1 Buffalo State jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning against RIT starter Mary Keegan (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca West). RIT answered with a run in the bottom of the first. Tonya Campbell (Rochester, NY/Aquinas Institute) (Rochester, NY) scored on a triple by Kelly Iagulli (Eagle River, AK/Chugiak) (Eagle Rver, AK), cutting the Bengals lead to 3-1. Iagulli made it 3-2 with her solo homerun in the bottom of the fourth but Buffalo State scored three times in the top of the sixth inning, going on to the 6-2 win.
Mary Keegan (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca West) (West Seneca, NY) took the loss for the Tigers, going seven innings, allowing six runs on seven hits. She struck out seven and walked two. Iagulli went 2-3 with a triple and a home run. She also drove in both of RIT's runs.
In game #2 RIT was led by Elaine Vonderembse (Oak Harbor, OH/Genoa Area) (Genoa, OH) who went 4-5 with a pair of doubles, two runs scored and two RBI. Shari McNamara (Rome, NY/Rome Catholic) (Rome, NY) went 2-4, while picking up the victory on the mound. She allowed two runs on seven hits, struck out four and walked two. Josa Hanzlik (Fairport, NY/Fairport) (Fairport, NY) and Gretchen Goodhue (Springvale, ME/Sanford) each went 2-3. Goodhue and Caitlin Krumm (Buffalo, NY/Williamsville North) each had a pair of RBI.
RIT broke the game open in the third inning, scoring three runs. Danielle Miller (Merrimack, NH) led off the inning with a double. Two batters later Gretchen Goodhue (Springvale, ME/Sanford) (Springvale, ME) singled, scoring Miller from second. Cailtin Krumm (Buffalo, NY) then singled to drive in Goodhue. Elaine Vondeembse kept it going with a single, driving in Krumm. When all was said and done the Tigers sent seven batters to the plate in the third, scoring three runs on four hits.
RIT follwed with two runs in the fourth, a run in the fifth and a pair of runs in the sixth. The Tigers pounded out 14 hits, scoring nine runs.
RIT will face Alfred University on Saturday, April 10 at 1 p.m. The double header will be played in Alfred, New York.
