Click For Boxscore (Game #1)Click For Boxscore (Game #2)ROCHESTER, NY -- The RIT softball team split a pair of games this afternoon against St. John Fisher in a battle for positioning in the Empire 8. In game #1 St. John Fisher won 9-2. The Tigers rebounded to take game #2 2-0.
In game #1 RIT committed four errors, which led to five St. John Fisher runs.
Shari McNamara (Rome, NY/Rome Catholic) (Rome, NY) took the loss, allowing six runs on 11 hits in 5.2 innings of work.
Elaine Vonderembse (Oak Harbor, OH/Genoa Area) (Genoa, OH) and Cailtin Krumm (Buffalo, NY) had the only hits of the game for the Tigers. Vonderembse and Krumm also scored both RIT runs.
Game #2 was a pitchers duel between RIT freshman
Allie Sitton (Baltimore, MD/The Park School) and Cardinal's starter Amanda Herberger. Sitton was outstanding for the Tigers allowing no runs on six hits in seven innings of work. She struck out eight and walked just one batter, earning her sixth win of the season. RIT finally broke through on Herberger in seventh inning.
Shari McNamara (Rome, NY/Rome Catholic) led off the inning with a double. Cailtin Krumm's sacrifice moved McNamara over to third.
Gretchen Goodhue (Springvale, ME/Sanford) drove McNamara in with a single to right. Goodhue advanced to second on the throw. After a fly-out by Jess Fabin,
Allie Sitton (Baltimore, MD/The Park School) helped her own cause with a single, driving in Goodhue for the second run of the inning. Sitton shut down the Cardinals in the seventh.
RIT will resume action with Utica on Sunday. They resume a game that was started last Sunday but was rained out after two innings.
