Softball Splits Against University of Rochester

ROCHESTER, NY -- The RIT softball team split a doubleheader against the University of Rochester on Thursday afternoon. RIT won game #1 3-2 and dropped the second game 1-0.

In game #1 RIT scored three runs in the bottom of fifth inning off of Rochester starter Kristina Long. Danielle Miller (Merrimack, NH), Josa Hanzlik (Fairport, NY/Fairport) (Fairport, NY) and Cailtin Krumm (Buffalo, NY) each scored in the fifth for RIT. The big blow came on a double from Krumm, scoring Hanzlik and Miller. Shari McNamara (Rome, NY/Rome Catholic) (Rome, NY) worked the first three innings, allowing no runs on four hits. Allie Sitton (Baltimore, MD/The Park School) (Baltimore, MD) came in and pitched the final four innings, picking up the win. She allowed two runs on two hits and struck out eight.

RIT's bats went silent in game #2. The Tigers mustered just three hits off of Jennifer Moshier from Megan Varner (Apalachin, NY)Mary Keegan (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca West) (West Seneca, NY) and Josa Hanzlik (Fairport, NY/Fairport). Keegan got the start for RIT and allowed one unearned run on four hits. She struck out five and walked one. Rochester scored their run in the top of the first on an RBI by Tracy Simon.

RIT is now 17-12 on the season and will host St. John Fisher College on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m.
