ALFRED, NY -- The RIT softball team swept a pair of games against Empire 8 foe Alfred University. RIT took game #1 7-3 and won game #2 5-3.

In game #1 RIT jumped out to a 3-0 lead with three runs in the top of the first inning. The tigers added three runs in the third and a run in the sixth, going on to the 7-3 win. RIT had nine hits led by Elaine Vonderembse (Oak Harbor, OH/Genoa Area) (Genoa, OH) who went 3-5 with an RBI and a run scored. Shari McNamara (Rome, NY/Rome Catholic) (Rome, NY) went 1-4 with a run scored and two RBI. She also picked up the win on the mound, going seven innings, allowing five hits and three runs. McNamara struck out eight and walked two.

In game #2 RIT scored a single run in each of the first four innings. They added a run in the seventh for the 5-3 win. RIT had five hits led by Josa Hanzlik (Fairport, NY/Fairport) (Fairport, NY) who went 2-2 with two runs scored and a RBI. Kelly Iagulli (Eagle River, AK/Chugiak) (Eagle River, AK), Shari McNamara (Rome, NY/Rome Catholic) and Allie Sitton (Baltimore, MD/The Park School) (Baltimore, MD) each had an RBI. Sitton was the winning pitcher. She went seven innings, allowing three runs on three hits. She had two strike outs and walked just one batter.
