UTICA, NY - The RIT baseball team swept a pair of games at Utica College on Saturday. The Tigers took game #1 9-4 and won game #2 14-6.
In game #1 RIT scored runs in each of the first three innings. The Tigers scored three runs in the first, one in the second and three in the third.
Jeff Ware (Orchard Park, NY/St. Francis) (Orchard Park, NY) and
John Byrne (East Amherst, NY/Williamsville East) (E. Amherst, NY) each had a pair of hits to lead RIT. Ware went 2-5 with a run scored and an RBI. Byrne went 2-4 with a home run, driving in three runs.
Chris Haigney (Syracuse, NY/Westhill) (Syracuse, NY) picked up the victory for the Tigers. He went seven innings allowing four runs on eight hits. He struck out eight and walked just one.
In game #2 RIT scored three runs in the first and put up six runs in the fourth inning to blow the game open.
Jamie Schild (Fairport, NY/Fairport) (Fairport, NY),
John Byrne (East Amherst, NY/Williamsville East),
Andy Scroger (Spencerport, NY/Spencerport) (Spencerport, NY) and
Adam Gerentine (Marlboro, NY/Marlboro High School) (Marloro, NY) each had two hits for the Tigers. Byrne went 2-4 with four RBI and a run scored. Schild went 2-3 with a RBI and four runs scored.
Bo Mahaney (Burdett, NY/Watkins Glen) (Burdett, NY) picked up the victory. He went seven innings allowing six runs on seven hits. He struck out four and walked three.
