Baseball Loses to Philadelphia University

The RIT baseball team dropped their second straight game on Friday at the Coco Expo. The Tigers were defeated by Philadelphia University, 7-6. Philadelphia scored the game-winning run in the bootom of the seventh inning handing RIT their third loss of the season.

RIT took the lead in the top of the fifth with two runs. Matt Singer (Honeoye Falls, NY/Honeoye Falls-Lima) led off the inning with a walk. He advanced to second on a balk. Two batters later Colin Bradley (Barre, VT/Spaulding High School) reached base after being hit by a pitch. After a walk to Mark Sapienza (Avon, NY/Avon Central) that loaded the bases John Byrne (East Amherst, NY/Williamsville East) drove in Singer and Bradley with an RBI single, giving RIT a 2-1 lead.

Phalidelphia answered with five runs in the bottom of the fifth off of starter Chris Haigney (Syracuse, NY/Westhill), taking a 6-2 lead. RIT answere with four runs in the top of the sixth, tying the score at 6-6. Jamie Schild (Fairport, NY/Fairport) had a sacrifice fly, driving in a run and Jeff Ware (Orchard Park, NY/St. Francis) drove in two runs on a single as RIT scored their runs on just two hits.

Jeff Ware (Orchard Park, NY/St. Francis) led RIT, going 2-4 with a double and two RBI. Matt Singer (Honeoye Falls, NY/Honeoye Falls-Lima) went 2-3 with two runs. Jamie Schild (Fairport, NY/Fairport) and John Byrne (East Amherst, NY/Williamsville East) each had a hit for the Tigers.

Chris Haigney (Syracuse, NY/Westhill) got the start for RIT. He went 4.1 innings, allowing four runs on seven hits. He struck out five and walked three. Ian Ammons (Fairport, NY/Fairport) took the loss. He went 1.2 innings, allowing one unearned run on no hits. He struck out two and walked three.
