Baseball Sweeps St. John Fisher

Jamie Schild had four hits and scored three runs as RIT swept St. John Fisher on Wednesday.

PITTSFORD, NY -- The RIT baseball team swept a double-header at St. John Fisher College on Wednesday afternoon. RIT took game #1, 8-4 and won game #2 8-0. RIT improves to 6-7 overall and are 2-0 in the Empire 8.

In game #1 RIT scored runs in every inning but the first enroute to an 8-4 win. The Tigers scored eight runs on 13 hits and were led by Jeff Ware (Orchard Park, NY/St. Francis) (Orchard Park,NY) and Andy Scroger (Spencerport, NY/Spencerport)  (Spencerport, NY)who each had three hits. Ware went 3-5 with a double and an RBI. Scroger was 3-4 with two RBI. Jon Byrne also drove in two runs.

Dan Phillipp (Rochester, NY) earned the win for RIT in game #1. He went 5.0 innings, allowing four runs on 11 hits. He struck out four and walked one. Dylan Rees (Wampsville, NY/Oneida) (Wampsville, NY) pitched the sixth and seventh innings, allowing no runs on no hits and three strike outs.

 Game #2 was the Dan Weglinski (Hyde Park, NY/F D Roosevelt) (Hyde Park, NY) show. The senior hurler twirled a gem, throwing the six-hit shutout. He struck out one and walked one, earning the victory. RIT's offense pounded out 12 hits in game #2 led by Colin Bradley (Barre, VT/Spaulding High School) (Barre, VT), Jamie Schild (Fairport, NY/Fairport) (Fairport, NY), Mark Sapienza (Avon, NY/Avon Central) (Avon, NY) and Andy Scroger (Spencerport, NY/Spencerport) who each had a pair of hits. Bradley and John Byrne (East Amherst, NY/Williamsville East) (E. Amherst, NY) each drove in two runs, while Scroger scored two runs.

The Tigers hit the road this weekend for a pair of double-headers. On Saturday the Tigers visit Union College for a 1 p.m. start. Sunday RIT will face Rensselaer beginning at Noon.
