Tim Bacon had 19 points to lead RIT past Alfred on Saturday

ALFRED, NY -- Rebounding from a heartbreaking loss on Friday the RIT (16-9, 11-3 E8) men's basketball team closed out the regular season with a 74-62 win over Alfred University (3-22, 2-12 E8) on Saturday. The win earns RIT the second seed in the inaugural Empire 8 tournament.

Alfred put up a good fight in the first half, holding a four-point lead early on. The Tigers took their first lead with 16:05 to play in the half on a dunk by Jesse Foote (Lockwood, N.Y./Spencer-Van Ettan) (Lockwood, NY) and never trailed again. The Tigers built their lead up to nine points on a pair of free throws by Kyle Goff (Manassas, VA), but Alfred hung tough and trailed by five points at the half, 33-28. RIT shot 46.2 percent from the floor in the first half and were led by Tim Bacon (Massena, NY/Massena) (Massena, NY) who had nine points on 4-of-5 shooting from ther floor.

RIT broke the game open in the second thanks to some hot shooting. The Tigers shot 65.4 percent from the floor in the second half, making 17-of-26 shots. Tim Bacon (Massena, NY/Massena) scored 10 points in the second half, finishing with 19 points on 9-of-10 shooting from the floor. Jesse Foote (Lockwood, N.Y./Spencer-Van Ettan) had 17 points and five rebounds, Kyle Goff had nine points and five rebounds. Drew Martin (Oneonta, NY/Oneonta) (Oneonta, NY)  had eight points, four boards and four assists for the Tigers.
