ROCHESTER- The RIT men's basketball team improved to 8-2 in the Empire 8 with a win over the Hawks of Hartwick College tonight at Clark Gymnasium.

After Hartwick scored the initial basket of the contest, the Tigers scored on their next two trips down the court and never trailed in the rest of the game. The first half was highlighted by an 11-2 Tigers run which allowed RIT to lead 30-13 at the nine-minute mark. That was their largest lead of the half. RIT's offense, led by Fran Snyder (Buffalo, NY/Bishop Timon St. Jude)'s 17-point half, shot 53.3 percent from the floor, while the Hawks managed just 34.6 percent. Rebounding was the key for the defense, as Snyder (Buffalo, NY) also grabbed five caroms in the half. The Tigers took a 44-25 lead into halftime.

In the second half, RIT continued their success from the opening half, extending their lead to as much as 24 with six and a half minutes to play. The Hawks narrowed the margin to 13 late in the half due in part to five three-pointers. But RIT was able to dominate the Hawks defense, shooting 56.5 percent from the floor. The Tigers would hold on to their 13-point lead for the win. Fran Snyder (Buffalo, NY/Bishop Timon St. Jude) was the Tigers' leading scorer with 17 points and six rebounds, while Kyle Goff (Manassas, VA) added 15 points and six rebounds. RIT improves to 13-8 on the season and will face Utica tomorrow afternoon at 4 p.m. in Clark Gymnasium.
