Click For BoxscoreROCHESTER, NY -- The RIT (2-2) men's basketball team got back on the winning track Friday night with an 89-55 win over Mitchell College in the first round of the Joe King Tournament hosted by Nazareth College. The Tigers will face the winner of the Nazareth versus Oswego State game in the championship on Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m.
RIT trailed 9-6 early in the first half but finished the half strong outscoring Mitchell 47-15 taking a 53-24 lead into halftime.
Senior center
Jesse Foote (Lockwood, NY/Spencer-Van Ettan) (Lockwood, NY/Spencer Van Ettan) tied a career high with seven blocks in the first half.
RIT shot 46.3% from the floor in the first half led by
Kyle Goff (Manassas, VA/Stonewall Jackson) (Manassas, VA/Stonewall Jackson) who had 10 points.
Freshman guard
Barrett Zeinfeld (Tucson, AZ/Catalina Foothills) (Tucson, AZ/Catalina Foothills) added eight points including two three-pointers.
RIT's shooting fell off a bit in the second half as the Tigers shot 38.7% from the field. RIT was sharp from beyond the arc making 5-of-11 shots from three-point land.
The Tigers finished with four players scoring in double figures led by
Kyle Goff (Manassas, VA/Stonewall Jackson),
Sean Murphy (Buffalo, NY/Williamsville North) (Buffalo, NY/Williamsville North) and
Barrett Zeinfeld (Tucson, AZ/Catalina Foothills) who each had 14 points. Tim
Bacon (Massena, NY/Massena) added 12 points.
The Tigers were tough on the boards outrebounding the Pequots 53-35.
