Women's Soccer Loses to Vassar in NYSWCAA Championship

ROCHESTER, NY -- Vassar scored a goal early in the first half to give the Brewers a 1-0 win over RIT in the New York State Women's Collegiate Athletic Association (NYSWCAA) Soccer Championship. Jenny Baumwoll, who tallied the game's lone goal, was the Most Outstanding Player.

The Tigers were outshot by the Brewers in the first hald 6-1. RIT goalie Carrie Yehle (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) made four saves in the half, keeping RIT close.

The game's only came in the 12th minute. Ashley Willhite fed a ball into RIT's penalty area that Baumwoll ran onto. She juked Yehle, who had come out to play the ball, and scored into the empty net for a 1-0 Vassar lead.

RIT tried to get the equalizer in the second half as they put solid pressure on Vassar's defense. Alaina Chorney (Manalapan, NJ/Manalapan) (Manalapan, NJ/Manalapan) got free several times in the second half but Vassar's keeper Lisa Strumwasser kept making the stops at the right time.

Yehle continued her strong play for RIT in the second half, making two saves including several from point blank range.

The Tigers wrap up the 2004 season with a 6-9-2 record.
