ROCHESTER, NY - The RIT Women's Soccer team won their final regular season game of the 2004 season on Saturday afternoon, defeating SUNY Fredonia 3-2 in the second overtime in front of 250 fans at RIT Field.
Sophomore Alaina Chorney (Manalapan, NJ/Manalapan) (Manalapan, NJ/Manalapan) headed in a pass from Heather Kelly (Scottsville, NY/Wheatland-Chili) (Scottsville, NY/Wheatland-Chili) with 1:36 remaining in the second overtime to give RIT the win. The goal was Chorney's sixth of the season.
Senior defender Leigh Hochella (Macungie, PA/Emmaus) (Macungie, PA/Emmaus) kept the game tied at 2 with a minute left in the first overtime, as she deflected a Fredonia header that was heading to a wide open net out of bounds.
First-year forward Anna Kolnik (Sharon, WI/Big Foot) (Sharon, WI/Big Foot) opened the scoring for the Tigers in the 27th minute, as she won a battle for a loose ball just inside the Fredonia penalty area. She calmly slid the ball between the goalkeepers legs for her team-leading seventh goal of the season.
Fredonia tied the game in the 33rd minute, as Katie Remus headed in a perfect pass from Tracy Grimes on a corner kick attempt.
Senior Kate Cassim (Waterloo, NY/Waterloo) (Waterloo, NY/Waterloo) gave RIT a 2-1 lead in the 55th minute. Sophomore Melanie Bryant (Lancaster, NY/Sacred Heart Academy) (Lancaster, NY/Sacred Heart Academy) crossed a corner kick attempt to the front of the net, where Cassim corraled a loose ball and slammed it into the back of the net for her sixth goal of the season.
Remus sent the game to overtime with 1:25 remaining in the second half, converting on a penalty kick for her second goal of the afternoon, after a Fredonia player was hauled down inside the penalty area.

RIT out-shot SUNY Fredonia (8-8-2, 4-5-1 SUNYAC) 22-11 in the contest, including 12-4 in the second half. Brianna Falvey stopped five shots for Fredonia, while senior Carrie Yehle (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) (Clifton Park, NY/Shenedahowa) made six saves to earn her sixth win of the year.
RIT ends the regular season with a 6-9-2 (2-3-2 Empire 8) record and will be awaiting a possible berth in the NYSWCAA Tournament.
