ONEONTA, NY -- The RIT men's basketball team got back on the winning track on Saturday with a 66-52 win over Hartwick College. The win improves RIT to 11-7 overall and 6-1 in the Empire 8. Hartwick falls to 1-15 overall and 0-7 in the Empire 8.
RIT took control of the game in the first half, outscoring the Hawks 30-24. RIT shot 38.5 percent in the first half, making 10-of-28 shots from the floor. The Tigers held Hartwick to 31 percent shooting and forced the Hawks into six turnovers. Sean Murphy (Buffalo, NY/Williamsville North) led RIT with nine points in the first half on 3-of-6 shooting, including three, three-point baskets. Kyle Goff added eight points and three rebounds.
RIT broke the game open in the second half, shootig 44 percent from the floor. The Tigers made 11-of-25 shots from the floor, including two three-pointers. Goff finished the game with 16 points, including eight second-half points. Fran Snyder (Buffalo, NY/Bishop Timon St. Jude) added 13 points as RIT outrebounded the Hawks 44-26.
RIT will face Ithaca College in Empire 8 action on Friday evening at 8 p.m. in Elmira, New York.
