BROCKPORT, N.Y. - The SUNY Oneonta baseball team defeated RIT 6-3 to advance to the finals of the ECAC Division III Upstate Baseball Championship. Oneonta improves to 26-14, while RIT finished the season 21-13.
Down 3-0, Oneonta rallied to tie the game 3-3 in the fourth inning on an RBI single by Mike Kuratnick (Apalachin/Vestal), and a Ryan McGinniss (Latham/Central Catholic) two-run double. Oneonta took a 5-3 lead in the fifth inning on RBI doubles from Rocco Grassi (Endicott/Union Endicott) and Chris Brew (Vestal/Vestal).
RIT scored all three of its runs in the second inning. Ben Fuller (Penfield, N.Y./Penfield) (Penfield/Penfield) hit a two-run homer, his first of the year, and Jamie Schild (Fairport, NY/Fairport) (Fairport/Fairport) hit a solo shot for his third of the season.
Erik Weber (Bainbridge/Bainbridge-Guilford) improved to 4-2, allowing six hits and three earned runs in six innings. Rick Vesely (Schenectady/Schenectady) picked up the save with three innings of no-hit ball, allowing just one walk while striking out four. Daniel Phillips (Rochester/Greece Arcadia) fell to 2-2 on the season with the loss.
