ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The RIT baseball team swept a strong RPI baseball team that was ranked #18 by the scores of 8-2 and 6-4. The Tigers battered Red Hawk pitchers for 24 hits on the day and never trailed in either game.

Centerfielder Dan Feldman (Brewster, N.Y./Brewster) (Brewster, N.Y.) broke the ice for RIT by scoring off of a double from Marty Maynard (Penfield, N.Y./Penfield) (Penfield, N.Y.) in the first inning. Fairport native Jamie Schild (Fairport, NY/Fairport) kept the ball rolling the next inning by hitting a solo homerun off of RPI pitcher Max Miller. In the bottom of the fourth inning, Feldman hit a single to left field to drive in two more runs and cap off a three run inning and put the Tigers up 5-0. Dylan Rees (Wampsville, NY/Oneida) kept RPI in check by only allowing two runs (one earned) on three hits to pitch the complete game and earn his third victory of the season. Rees is 3-2 on the season.

In the second game, Jeff Ware (Orchard Park, NY/St. Francis) (Orchard Park, N.Y.) sparked a five run third inning by hitting a double to left field driving in two runs. Marty Maynard (Penfield, N.Y./Penfield) (Penfield, N.Y.), Andrew Zach (Buffalo, N.Y./Kenmore East) (Buffalo, N.Y.), and Schild would each hit for RBIs and knock out Red Hawk pitcher Brian Rickert after only two and 2/3rd innings pitched and the Tigers winning 6-2.

RPI answered back when Brian Marine hit a two run homerun off of Nick Bell (Jamestown, NY/Jamestown High School) (Jamestown, N.Y.) and put the Red Hawks within striking distance the very next inning. In the top of the seventh, Matt Knodel (Orchard Park, N.Y./Orchard Park) (Orchard Park, N.Y.) came on in relief in the 7th inning to close the game for the Tigers but ran into trouble when the Red Hawks loaded the bases with no outs. A short pop fly followed by a crucial groundball double play allowed Knodel to escape with the save and RIT to run away with the sweep.

RIT travels to Clarkson on Saturday May 5th at 12 p.m.
