ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The RIT baseball team defeated Cazenovia College 8-0 and 9-0. The Tigers swung the hot bats all day torching the Wildcats with 21 hits while not making a single error in the field.

Senior Paul Diedrich (Hilton, N.Y./Hilton) (Hilton, N.Y.) had a solid game on the mound for the Tigers in the first contest. Diedrich ran into trouble early when Cazenovia loaded the bases in the third inning with no outs but escaped the inning unscathed. Diedrich ran into another bases loaded situation the very next inning, this time a diving catch in foul territory from infielder Andrew Zach (Buffalo, N.Y./Kenmore East) (Buffalo N.Y.) helped preserve the shutout. Outfielder Mark Sapienza (Avon, NY/Avon Central) (Rochester, N.Y.) knocked in 4 of RIT's 8 runs to earn Diedrich the victory. The Wildcats stranded 9 runners on base in the contest.

The Tigers didn't stop after the first game when Nick Bell (Jamestown, NY/Jamestown High School) (Jamestown, N.Y.) took the mound and blew away Cazenovia's hitters striking out the first 5 batters he faced. Marty Maynard (Penfield, N.Y./Penfield) (Penfield, N.Y.) led the offense going 3-3 with 1 RBI and 2 runs scored. Smart baserunning helped the Tigers manufacture 9 runs against the Cortland defense. Bell earned the win only allowing 2 hits and striking out 9.

RIT hosts Cortland on Saturday, April 25th at 1 p.m.
