ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The RIT Baseball improved their standings in the Empire 8 by defeating conference foe Utica College 12-4 and 10-1 on Sunday afternoon. Good pitching from the Tigers coupled with numerous fielding errors by the Pioneers helped RIT achieve the victories.

Senior Paul Diedrich (Hilton, N.Y./Hilton) (Hilton, N.Y.) pitched the first game allowing four runs on four hits in five innings pitched. Diedrich ran into a trouble in the 6th inning when a base clearing double with the bases-loaded helped pull Utica into striking distance. Daniel Philipp (Rochester, NY/Greece Arcadia) (Rochester, N.Y.) came on in relief and struck out three of the six batters he faced to earn the save.

The Tigers' offense was sparked by freshman Mark Sapienza (Avon, NY/Avon Central) (Rochester, N.Y.) and Senior Dan Feldman (Brewster, N.Y./Brewster) (Brewster, N.Y.). Sapienza went 3-3 scoring three runs with one RBI while Feldman went 3-3 with one run and two RBIs.

Sapienza's bat didn't cool off for the second game where he had two singles on four at-bats driving in four runs. Leftfielder Jeff Ware (Orchard Park, NY/St. Francis) (Orchard Park, N.Y.) torched the base paths with two stolen bases while batting 2-3 with two runs scored and two RBI. Matt Knodell pitched a complete seven innings behind the 10 run RIT offense for the second game.

RIT will host Keuka at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, April 15th.
