BUFFALO, N.Y. - The RIT Softball team was finally able to play a game in New York State when the frosty April weather gave way to a sunny day on Thursday splitting a doubleheader at Buffalo State winning the opener 1-0 and dropping the second game 8-0.

The melting snow created poor field conditions on the infield and swampy pools of mud in the outfield. The soft ground deadened many offense attempts but also created many opportunities for errors.

In the first game, Shari McNamara (Rome, NY/Rome Catholic) (Rome, N.Y.) almost pitched a perfect game allowing only one hit. McNamara was helped by the Tiger offense when an error by Buffalo State second basemen Brooke Matheis (Hamburg, N.Y.) in the second inning allowed Ashley Kennedy (Chappaqua, N.Y.) to reach base. Kennedy was pushed into scoring position on a sacrifice from Kelly Iagulli (Eagle River, AK/Chugiak) (East River, Alaska) and was able to score from second on a single by Caitlin Krumm (Buffalo, NY/Williamsville North) (Buffalo N.Y.)

The Tigers were not able to spark any more offense the rest of the day and dropped the second game 8-0. Kennedy was the only Tiger able to reach base and a number of fielding errors caused the second game to end via mercy rule.

Weather permitting, the RIT will host Alfred on Saturday April 12th.
