Cocoa Beach, Fla. -- The Rochester Institute of Technology baseball team could not come up with a win in an offensive showdown at the Cocoa Expo, as the Tigers lost to Division II Philadelphia University by a score of 10-6.

The scoring started early when Philadelphia designated hitter Kevin Stinger hit a three-run homerun in the top of the first inning.

RIT (3-3) answered right back, scoring four runs in the bottom half of the frame. The Tiger rally was started when Eric Hauser (East Aurora, N.Y./Iroquois), John Byrne (East Amherst, NY/Williamsville East), and Mark Sapienza (Avon, NY/Avon Central) all took walks as Philadelphia starter Steve Torpey had trouble finding the strike zone. Freshman left fielder Colin Bradley (Barre, VT/Spaulding High School) then made the Rams pay when he drove a 2-1 pitch to left center for a three RBI double. Bradley later came around to score on Dan Feldman (Brewster, N.Y./Brewster)'s single to center field.

Philadelphia then scored three runs in the fifth inning, but once again RIT answered right back. nJoh Byrne, who went 2-2 on the day, picked up a two out single to left field. Dave France, who pinch ran, would eventually come around to score on a bases loaded walk by Dan Feldman (Brewster, N.Y./Brewster).

After working out of the bases loaded threat in the bottom of the fifth, Philadelphia put the game away with a two run homerun in the sixth inning by left fielder Nate VanHook.
