ALFRED, N.Y.—The Rochester Institute of Technology men’s basketball team rolled to their fifth straight victory trouncing Alfred University 80-63. Three Tigers scored in double figures while two just missed double-doubles.
Senior co-captain Mike Stanton (Honoeye Falls, N.Y.) paced RIT hitting 8-11 from the floor and a perfect 5-5 from the charity stripe tallying 21 points. Stanton has perfected the 15-18 jump shot making it impossible for opponents to defend him. Teammate and Empire 8 Rookie of the Week, Fran Snyder (Buffalo, NY/Bishop Timon St. Jude) (Buffalo, N.Y.) chipped in 15 and dished out four assists to close out the night. Nine of Snyder’s points were from behind the arch hitting 3-5 to lead the Tigers.
The opening half the younger and inexperienced Alfred squad made their best efforts playing man-to-man defense but were unable to keep up with the speed of Reggie Shore (Amityville, NY/Amityville) (Amityville, N.Y.) and Dan Cerro (Union springs, N.Y.) the two combined handed out 11 assists, Cerro had a game high accounting for nine of those. The Tigers close out the half with a commanding ten point lead of 45-35.
With many line-up variations in the second half RIT was able to give some of their starting line-up a rest for tomorrow’s Empire 8 match-up with St. John Fisher who recorded a nine point victory over Nazareth.
6-10 Center Jesse Foote (Lockwood, N.Y./Spencer-Van Ettan) (Lockwood, N.Y.) almost recorded his first collegiate double double with six blocks and nine points. Foote currently leads the conference with 49 (2.7 bpg)
Three Saxons scored in double digits in Doug Baker (Waterloo, N.Y) with 21, Gavin Backus (Mt. Upton, N.Y) with 15 and Bryan Crandall (Andover, N.Y.) added 11 to close out the night.
