UTICA, N.Y.—The Rochester Institute of Technology men’s basketball team rolled to a 73-52 victory over Utica College. Freshman, Fran Snyder (Buffalo, NY/Bishop Timon St. Jude) (Buffalo, N.Y.) paced the Tigers hitting 6-9 for 22 total points.

The Tigers struggled throughout the first half from the three point line hitting a season low 1-7 for 14.3 percent while the Pioneers connected on 50 percent from behind the arch. 6-10 center Jesse Foote (Lockwood, N.Y./Spencer-Van Ettan) (Lockwood, N.Y.) dominated the paint netting 13 of his 17 points in the first. Foote proved to be a defensive weapon for the Tigers as he tallied seven blocks and grabbed 11 rebounds. RIT closed out the half leading the Pioneers 31-26.

After the half-time break the Tigers entered the hardwoods for the second half showdown. Snyder used his speed and agility to drive the lane causing the Pioneers top scorer Justin Cichon (New Hartford, N.Y.) to get into foul trouble. He also tallied 12 of his 22 in the second while picking up seven steals. Co-captain Mike Stanton (Honeoye Falls, N.Y.) re-entered the game after getting into foul trouble early in the first. Stanton, who has perfected the 15-18 foot jump shot, finished the night with 14 points and four boards.

RIT still shares the first place in the Empire 8 wit St. John Fisher as they beat Ithaca 67-64 in overtime. The Tigers improve to 15-6 overall and 8-2 in the Empire 8. RIT will return to action tomorrow as they travel to Hartwick.
