ROCHESTER, NY -- The RIT women's volleyball team defeated Alfred University, 3-0 this evening at Clark Gymnasium in a match of two Empire 8 foes. The win improves RIT to 13-9 on the season and 1-0 in Empire 8 play. Alfred drops to 3-19 overall and 0-3 in the Empire 8.

After falling behind early in game #1 freshman Carla Goetsch (LaFayette, NY) rattled off 11 straight points on her serve. The Tigers never looked back winning game #1, 30-14.

Game #2 was close in the beginning but the Tigers rattled off six straight points on Sarah Ballard (Lakeview, NY/Frontier)'s (Lake View, NY) serve, taking a 17-11 lead. Alfred mounted a small comeback but RIT hold on for the 30-20 victory

In her first action in a month senior Missy Groginski (Brewertown, NY/Paul V. Moore) (Brewerton, NY) rattled off 10 straight points in game #3, helping RIT to 30-15 win.

RIT was led by Bonnie Harriman (Danbury, CT/Danbury) (Danbury, CT) and Jackie Russo (Canastota, NY/Canastota) (Canastota, NY) who each had 10 kills. Sarah Ballard (Lakeview, NY/Frontier) (Lake View, NY) had 33 assists and 14 digs, while Stephanie Williams (Chalfont, PA/Lansdale Catholic) (Harleysville, PA) led RIT with 18 digs. Freshman Dani Fisher (Pittsburgh, PA/Plum Borough) (Pittsburgh, PA) added six kills and five blocks for RIT.

Catherine Reick (Walworth, NY) led Alfred with eight kills. Beth Sanger (Greece, NY) had six kills and 12 digs, while Deen Genzardi (Oneonta, NY) had nine aces. Kathryn Goetschius (Wellsville, NY) added 12 digs for the Saxons.
