Click for BoxscoreROCHESTER, NY -- The women's soccer team fell to William Smith College, 2-0 this afternoon on a rainy RIT Field. The loss drops RIT to 9-6-0 on the season, while William Smith improves to 10-3-1 on the season.
William Smith dominated play in the first 10 minutes of action, out shooting the Tigers 5-0. The Herons broke the scoreless tie with 26:18 to play in the first half. Kristin Perrigo (Liverpool, NY) drove down the left side and sent a ball into the penalty area. Debbie Minarick (Wayne, NJ) took a shot from close range but Carrie Yehle (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) (Clifton Park, NY) came up with the save. However, Kate Warner (Gloucester, MA) was right there to tuck the rebound into the bottom right corner, giving William Smith a 1-0 lead.
RIT's first shot on goal came from Mallory Frost (Barre, VT) with 17:24 to play in the half. The Herons out shot the Tigers 12-2 as Carrie Yehle (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) came up big for RIT, making six saves.
RIT's best chance to tie the gae came with 31:10 to play in regulation. Mallory Frost controlled the ball just over midfield. She played a ball to Melanie Lowe (Kingston, Jamaica/Northfield Mount Hermon) (Kingston, Jamaica) who ran onto it and broke in alone on Nikki Dudely (Canastota, NY) of William Smith. Lowe tried to chip a shot over the keepers head but Dudley made the save preserving the lead.
William Smith put the game away with 25:03 to play in the second half when Stephanie Leveille (Ossining, NY) scored off a corner kick by Seraphine Hamilton (Trenton, NJ).
Yehel finished the game with nine saves for RIT, while Nikki Dudley made only two saves for William Smith.
