In the early minutes of the match, both teams played physical soccer as every pass was contested by each other's defense. Neither team seemed to gain an advantage until Hartwick's Meredith Pascale found an opening and fired a shot past Tiger goalie Carrie Yehle (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) at 2:57 in the period. But RIT answered back in the tenth minute when Moet De La Torre (Pottsville, Pa./Pottsville) (Pottsville, PA/Pottsville) headed in a great shot off of Brooke Thompson (Avon Lake, OH/Avon Lake)'s corner kick. The offense created several scoring chances, but were unable to capitalize again until the 42nd minute, when Mallory Frost (Barre, VT/Spaulding) got a corner kick past Hartwick's Stacy Griffin. Just over two minutes later, Frost struck again from the left side of the box, squeezing a shot into the top left corner of the goal.
The second half was a battle of the defenses as neither team was able to capitalize on great scoring opportunities. The Tigers continued to play solid defense throughout the half, but Hartwick's defenders answered each time RIT came down the field.
The score would remain 3-1 as time ran out. The goals by Frost were her sixth and se venth on the season, and she continues to lead the team in scoring. Keeper Carrie Yehle (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) recorded five saves in a great 90 minutes of work. With the win the Tigers improve to 9-5-0 and clinch the fourth seed in the upcoming Empire 8 Championships. They will face William Smith next on Tuesday, October 21.
