Women's Soccer Downs Alfred

ALFRED, NY -- The women's soccer team began Empire 8 conference play this afternoon at Alfred University. The Tigers continued their strong play with a 3-0 win over the Saxons. RIT came into the game ranked seventh in the Northeast region.

The first half's lone goal came when Mallory Frost (Barre, VT) scored on an assist from Moet De La Torre (Pottsville, Pa./Pottsville) (Pottsville, PA) in the 34th minute. The second half saw the Tigers strike twice. The first came on a penalty kick. Melanie Lowe (Kingston, Jamaica/Northfield Mount Hermon) (Kingston, Jamaica) was hauled down in the box on a breakaway. Emily Stecher (New Canaan, CT) converted her second penalty kick of the season, giving the Tigers a 2-0 lead. Frost rounded out the scoring with her second goal of the game coming on an assist from Tera Malone (Allegany, NY).

Carrie Yehle (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) (Clifton park, NY) played all 90 minutes in goal, making three saves. The defense of Emily Stecher and Jen Rynda (Medford, NJ/Shawnee) (Medford, NJ) was outstanding holding the Saxons to just three shots. The tigers have allowed just one goal in five games this season.

RIT improves to 5-0-0 on the season and 1-0-0 in the Empire 8. The Tigers travel to Hamilton College on Wednesday, September 17 at 4 p.m. in Clinton, New York.
