Click for BoxscoreROCHESTER, NY- The men's soccer team improved their record to 4-3-0 as they defeated Hobart 5-3 this afternoon at RIT Field. Trae Lower and George Chambers both tallied two goals to lead the Tigers to the win.
Hobart came out strong, controlling the ball throughout the opening minutes. But RIT capitalized in the 11th minute when George Chambers (Webster, NY/Erasmus Hall) parked a shot in the back of the goal from the top of the box. Neither team seemed to have the advantage as the half went on. Hobart's Ricky Klotz put the Statesmen on the board in the 20th minute, but Trae Lower (Biglerville, PA/Biglerville) responded just 22 seconds later with a shot from the left side of the box off an assist from Mike Lawson (Wall, NJ/Wall).
In the second half, momentum seemed to favor the Tigers. Responding to a Hobart score in the 40th minute, Jorge Ciurlizza (McLean, VA/Gonzaga) added a marker for RIT on a wild shot which bounced off the crossbar. The assist went to Lower, who was able to get the ball down, then over to Ciurlizza for the score at 47:23. Hobart responded with a score from John Rosenbaum, one of seven shots that RIT goalkeeper Nate Andrews faced in the second half. The Tigers were able to keep control through most of the half, as George Chambers tallied his second unassisted goal, beating Hobart keeper Carl Fried in the 60th minute to make the score 4-3. Finally, in the 80th minute, off a feed from Abe Zwirn (Berwick, MA/Noble), Trae Lower was able to create a one-on-one situation at the top of the goalie's box, then score to make the final tally 5-3 in favor of the Tigers. RIT will travel to face Utica College on September 20 at 1 pm.
