ROCHESTER, NY- The Tigers men's soccer squad took on the Golden Knights of Clarkson University Saturday afternoon at RIT Field. RIT was looking to rebound from their loss to St. Lawrence, and did so in solid fashion, stopping Clarkson 4-2.

The Tigers took control right away, as they were able to keep the ball in their offensive end in the opening minutes. In the seventh minute of the first period, Dan Beca (Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua) fed a short pass to Trae Lower (Biglerville, PA/Biglerville) who was in great position to head the ball in from just outside the box. The Tiger defense was able to keep the Knights at bay through most of the first half, until Clarkson's Ismael Mohammad found the upper corner of the cage, scoring past a leaping Nate Andrews in the 29th minute. RIT was quick to respond, however, as Steven Rygiel (Chesaming, MI/Corunna) scored on a feed from Frank Cutaiar (Churchville, NY/McQuaid) three minutes later. RIT headed into the second half with a 2-1 advantage.

The scoring in the second half opened with RIT on the defensive. Clarkson's Brian Greene was able to score despite the diving effort of Andrews, one of nine shots the Tiger goalkeeper faced in the second half. But just as they did in the first half, The Tigers evened the score quickly. In the 47th minute, just over a minute after Clarkson's goal, defenseman Travis Proctor (Livonia, NY/Livonia) got a point-blank shot past Knights keeper David Hennessey with help from Beca again, who sent it in with a corner kick. The goal was one of 17 total shots for RIT in the game.

Throughout the remainder of the half, both teams fought for possession of the ball, and both teams were able to create more scoring opportunities. Neither team was able to capitalize, though, until RIT's Brian Aderer (Acton, MA/Acton-Boxborough) found the net in the 87th minute, with help from Mike Lawson (Wall, NJ/Wall). When the final horn sounded, RIT led by the final score of 4-2. Goalkeeper Nate Andrews (Rochester, NY/Greece Arcadia) stopped five shots in 90 minutes of work. The Tigers improve to 3-3-0, and will face the Statesmen of Hobart College this Wednesday, September 17 at 4 pm on RIT Field.
