Ithaca, N.Y. - The Tigers split in the final day of the Bomber Invitational with a 3-0 loss to Ithaca and a 3-2 win over Widener College.
Returning after a long day of play on Friday the Tigers returned to action for the first game match-up with long time rival Ithaca College. The young squad started out strong in game one with big plays from freshman All-Tournament honoree, Chris Anabel (Apalachin, N.Y./Vestal) (Apalachin, N.Y.) and setter Katie Werner (Trumbull, Conn./Trumbull) (Trumbull, Conn.). This duo accounted for 11 of the Tigers 25 points. Ithaca's offense proved to be to strong for RIT sweeping the Tigers 3-0.
After a two-hour break the Tigers returned to action against Widener College. Junior Co-Captain Amy Baxter (San Antonio, Texas/Theodore Roosevelt) (San Antonio, Texas), Julie Scuderi (Rochester, NY/Greece Arcadia) (Rochester, N.Y.) and Anabel led the Tiger hitters smacking 15 kills during the five game match. RIT's Missy Groginski (Brewerton, N.Y./Paul V. Moore) (Brewerton, N.Y.)had a great weekend leading the defensive game with 58 digs basically shutting down the Tigers opponents.
RIT moves to 5-2 on the season and will return to action next weekend when the travel to NYU.
