Ithaca, N.Y. - The Rochester Institute of Technology volleyball team swept New Paltz and Skidmore during the first round of the Ithaca Tournament.

Last weekend's All-Tournament selection, Chris Anabel (Apalachin, N.Y./Vestal) (Apalachin, N.Y.), paced the Tigers. The 5-8 freshmen tallied 10 kills against New Paltz and 11 against Skidmore. Teammate and Niagara University Transfer Julie Scuderi (Rochester, NY/Greece Arcadia) (Rochester, N.Y.) made her first appearance with the Tigers pounding 13 kills and seven blocks.

On the defensive side of the game junior Missy Groginski (Brewerton, N.Y./Paul V. Moore) (Brewerton, N.Y.) and freshman Laura Grell (Lancaster, N.Y./Lancaster) (Lancaster, N.Y.) shut down both New Paltz and Skidmore. Groginski was all over the floor grabbing 17 digs to help avenge the Tigers loss from last weekend to Skidmore. Grell, a 5-5 defensive specialist, amassed 10 during game one.

The Tigers return to action tomorrow at 10 a.m. when they face the host Ithaca College.
